Do you love yourself? When was the last time you said “I love you” to yourself? That perhaps sounds like a strange question that you rarely ask yourself as you grow accustomed to loving others and putting others first but here is the reality… You spend 7 days a week, 365 days a year with yourself and guess what… You are the person whom you will spend the rest of your life with…!
Everything starts with self-love
I discovered the importance of self-love when I had to deal with criticism, degrading comments and behaviors a couple of years ago. I felt really down. A couple of months later, I decided to bounce back, stop listening to critics and judgment, build a thicker skin, fight for my identity and focus on my own well-being and happiness. In that way, I decided to stop caring what other people think of me.
Today I have a high regard for my own well-being and happiness and I take care of my own needs and do not sacrifice my well-being to please others. That’s why I want to share with you how to feel good in life – how to feel good about yourself, in your own mind and body. The truth is everything starts with self-love…
Here are my personal top 5 self-love practices that are easy to implement and helped me grow from a person who struggled with low self-esteem and what other people thought about me to a confident and happy human being
Use self-love affirmations
One of the easiest self-love practices is simply to use positive affirmations in passwords and on any surfaces you have at home and at work, such as mirrors, fridges and also on Post-it notes. Write them out and post them in a visible place so that you see them every morning or use them throughout the day. Examples of such affirmations are ‘I am lovable’, ‘I am enough’ ‘I am strong’, ‘I am beautiful’, ‘I am an amazing person’, ‘I love myself’ etc… but it is important that you write whatever resonates with you.
Change your passwords now to include self-love affirmations and ladies, it is time to take out your old lipsticks (that you haven’t worn for a year because of mask-wearing anyways)…!
Write Your Gratitude List
The first good habit I have every morning when I wake up is to write 10 things that I am grateful for. That allows me to start the day with positive thoughts and attitude. This is one of the keys to how to feel good in life as what you think is what you become.
When you write your gratitude list, ensure you write them in the present tense and progressively include things that you do not have yet but that you want to have in your life – as you can see in my journal below.
For the past couple of months, I have started every morning with that first sentence ‘I am so happy and grateful now that…’ which is issued from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
Change Your Self-Defeating Beliefs
Turn your deeply limiting beliefs about yourself into positive beliefs. For example, turn ‘I am too fat or too skinny… too tall or too short.’ into ‘I have the perfect size, I look great in my own body and I am lovable’ or turn ‘I have a bad skin and can’t go out of the house without make up’ into ‘I am caring for my skin daily and my partner finds me even more natural and beautiful when I keep my skin bare’.
Learn more about changing your limiting beliefs and teach yourself self-hypnosis to change your mindset and truly transform your life. This 5-week course – considering 20 to 30 minutes a day – is given by the internationally award-winning therapist Marisa Peers and called Rapid Transformational Hypnotherapy for Abundance.
Be selective on social media
Stop following anyone that makes you feel bad about yourself and your body on social media, such as Instagram or Facebook, or triggers negative emotions. That allows you and your subconscious to stop comparing yourself with others.
Trust me, you will feel much better on a daily basis and you will save valuable time that you can spend on self-care and self-development. Remember that your value does not lie in how your body looks despite the focus today on appearance that we can witness on social media. You are valuable because you are you, not because of your body!
Also don’t get concerned about what others think of you because what you need to remember is that critical people have the most critiques about themselves. Be YOU and focus on yourself and your journey and don’t hesitate to remove yourself from situations or the company of people – in person or on social media – who are draining you.
Practice Mindfulness
Embrace mindfulness, which is a powerful way to center yourself, set your intentions and listen to your intuition. You can do that with meditation, visualization or yoga practices. Becoming much more mindful and caring for your mental and emotional well-being will help you master productivity at work and live with higher consciousness.
I also always thought meditating was not working for me until I discovered Ziva Meditation with the amazing course the M Word by Emily Fletscher, one of the world’s leading experts in meditation. From work, career, sex, love and health — The M Word takes meditation to a whole new level by upgrading an ancient practice into a remarkable tool to upgrade your life.
